John Thompson Obituary

John Edward Thompson, passed away on August 24, 2025. He was born on October 30, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late John and Dorothy Thompson. He was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. He was a graduate of Kingsbury High School. He received a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science and a Doctorate of Mathematics, all from Memphis University. Jack was an avid fan of the University of Memphis basketball. He enjoyed gardening, hiking, cooking, baking, reading, and traveling. He was a Federal Forest Ranger for several years at the Fremont–Winema National Forest in Oregon utilizing his botany and mathematics background while combining his love of nature. He worked for many years as an Operations Research Analyst at Federal Express. He was an active member of the Memphis Area Daylily Society for many years. After he retired from Federal Express he and his wife traveled to most of the National Parks in the US and Canada via RV. Jack is survived by his wife, Cindy; sisters, Patsy and Diane; daughter Candi; son-in-law George and grandson Connor. A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
