Johnny Marvin Vines, of Germantown, TN, passed away January 18, 2021, after a short bout with Covid 19. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Marvin Vines, and his brother, James Andrew Vines. Johnny is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Elizabeth; two daughters, Elizabeth Vines Horton, of Memphis, and Ashley Vines Wilder (Ted), of Collierville; five grandchildren, Taylor, Anna Grace, Tucker, Campbell, and Matheston; three sisters, Tommye Lou Vines Davis (Don) of Waco, TX, Rebecca Vines Saulters, of Columbia, TN, and Shelia Vines Elrod, of Columbia, TN; and nine nieces and nephews.
Johnny was born November 23, 1945, in Springfield, MO. He grew up in Little Rock, AR, where he graduated from Hall High School (63). He graduated summa cum laude from Baylor University in Waco, TX, in 1967 with a BBA degree. He later obtained an MHA degree from Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where he was the winner of the Dr. Ted Sparling Scholarship Award for excellence in graduate education. John practiced as a CPA for 22 years, with Arthur Anderson, Seidman and Seidman, and Ernst and Young accounting firms. In 1989, John became Vice President for Baptist Healthcare System of Western Kentucky. In 1992, he became the CEO of Campbell Clinic, a world-renowned leader in orthopedics. He remained with Campbell Clinic until his retirement, January 1, 2010. John was a member of the Rotary Club of Memphis, serving as president 2009-2010; part of US Congressman Ed Bryant's finance committee; co-chairman of the Arthritis Foundation Arthritis Walk in 2002; and a member of various board of directors, including Trezevant Manor, American Health Partners, E. Ritter, among others.
Johnny's favorite hobbies included spending time in the North Carolina mountains, fishing, hiking, tubing, or just sitting on the porch, especially with his grandchildren. When he wasn't working, John enjoyed cheering on the Razorbacks and his beloved Baylor Bears, traveling to Bowl games when they were playing. He loved to travel, both at home and abroad. John was an active member and deacon of Bellevue Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and led mission trips.
Graveside service will be Sunday, January 24, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery, with a drive-by visitation following at Bellevue Baptist Church at 3:30.
