Karl Amelang Obituary
Karl was born in Houston, Texas, on September 13, 1947, to Ernst Josef Amelang and Lillian Barousse Amelang. He grew up at 1416 West Alabama street in Houston and attended Holy Rosary schools, graduating in 1969 from St. Thomas University. He pursued a 40-year-plus career in Human Resources for several major corporations, starting in Galveston, Texas, at the Falstaff Brewing plant, where he met his bride Janice in 1974, who worked at Falstaff corporate headquarters in St. Louis, Missouri. Theirs was a WATS line romance.
Karl was also an avid history buff and collector of antique weapons, medals, bronzes, and rare books. He studied commercial art in Houston and was a fine artist, as well as an award-winning potter on the Galveston Strand. During retirement, he explored the art of knife making.
Karl was preceded in death by his beloved parents and oldest brother James Roderick Amelang. He is survived by his wife Janice Lynn Scheerer Amelang, sons Hans Siegfried Christian Amelang and wife Sara Gentry Amelang, Kurt Dietrich Amelang, and Franz Gerhardt Amelang, all of Memphis, and Karl Friedrich Josef Amelang; older brother Ernst Josef Emil Amelang and wife Janet; grandchildren Ilse Payne Amelang, Josie Nicole Hall and husband Cody, Greta Amelang, Erynne Amelang, Gabrielle Zacharko; great-grandchildren James Jason Hall, Edward Elon Hall and Jackie Renee Hall; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family during visitation at 10:00 a.m. on January 10, 2023, in the narthex of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, followed by the services at 11:00 a.m.
