Katharine Hutches Obituary

Katharine Ann (Cupp) Hutchens, 75, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022 after a long battle with CADASIL, a hereditary stroke disorder.

Ann was born on January 18, 1947 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Katharine Fransioli and Harvey Allen Cupp. She graduated from Immaculate Conception Cathedral School in 1965 after attending Central High School for the 3 years prior. Ann then went on to attend Siena College.

Ann made a career as a histologist and loved helping her patients, but valued most her job as mother to her beloved son.

She retired from Methodist Hospital after 25 years then continued her work at Memphis Dermatology Clinic for the next 24 years. In addition to her work, she was a devout Catholic whose faith carried her through life. She served as a Eucharistic minister and delivered communion to the homebound. Even in retirement, she continued to lovingly serve her community volunteering regularly with Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity for over 10 years preparing food for and serving the impoverished.

Ann is survived by her only child, Alvin Hutchens (Julie), and grandchildren, Tucker (10), Cooper (7), and LouLou (4). She also leaves behind many beloved friends and family who will forever miss her sweet and generous heart. Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Jack Lynn Hutchens, parents, Katharine Fransioli Cupp and Harvey Allen Cupp, and brother, Howard Allen Cupp.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 11 AM at Church of the Holy Spirit with visitation beginning at 10 AM. A reception will follow. Committal and interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave.

In lieu of flowers, donations will support the CADASIL Research Fund (Dr. Michael Wang) at the University of Michigan. Checks may be made to "University of Michigan" and sent to the Michigan Medicine Office of Development, 777 E Eisenhower Pkwy, Ste 650, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. I attended Siena College with your mother & was delighted to visit with her whenever we´d run into each other. She was a very special person to all that knew her.
May God grant you peace & comfort knowing she´s with family & friends in heaven.
