Lois Shanes Obituary

Lois Jean Shanes, 73, passed away at home on December 18, 2020. She was born December 6, 1947, to the late Reverend John Henry and the late Eleanor Rose Street in Traverse City, Michigan. Her parents later became missionaries to the American Indians in Arizona.

She graduated from John Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Education.

Lois did so much at Ping (Karsten Mfg.) in the 34 years she was with them. She started off in the factory, moving to tour secretary, purchasing manager, and then finally becoming the first woman Sales Representative based in Memphis, Tennessee.

She retired from Ping and started a second career in Real Estate that lasted 12 years. While she was pursuing this new career, she met her soon to be husband, Danny Shanes. They met through a Singles Sunday School class at Bellevue Baptist Church in 2009. They got engaged in January and married in August of 2010.

Having a Christ-Centered life was important to both of them as they were members of Bellevue Baptist Church. She enjoyed her time in the choir and sitting under great Sunday School teachers.

Her interests including being an avid reader, working with Pastels, traveling (several missions trips), and camping with family.

She was a doting "NanaLo" to her grandnephews, Brent and Trevor, twin sons to Becca and Brian Jones.

In Heaven, she is being reunited with her parents, Reverend John and Eleanor Street, her sisters, Ruth Ann Street and MaryLu Lindley.

Lois is survived by her husband, Danny Shanes, sister, Esther Palmer, and husband, Gary. Nephew, Erick Lindley and wife Kim, Niece, Becca Jones and husband, Brian, Great Nephews, Brent and Trevor Jones, and Niece, Heidi Webb and husband Robert.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to Calvary Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 2077, Memphis, Tn 38101-2077.

She was such an inspiration to me, in the time I got to know her. Her will to recover from the terrible fall she had last year will always remind me of how I, too, can be patient and strong, like she was. She was such a woman of independence and determination, but with such a gentle heart and a great love for life and for her family and friends. I will miss her very much.
