Marianne Graves Obituary

On November 25, 2022, Ms. Marianne Dean Graves was received into her Lord's loving arms.

She loved the Lord first, living a joyful life of service to Him and to others, holding a special place in her heart for all of God's creatures.

Marianne was born on October 21, 1929, to Robert and Katherine Dean of Memphis, Tennessee, where she grew up and graduated from Miss Hutchison's School for Girls. She served as a Princess of the Memphis Cotton Carnival and was a member of Quakertown chapter of the DAR. She met and married Carl H. Graves, also of Memphis, and they raised their family of three daughters together. Marianne returned to school as an adult, taking her Associate of Arts degree magna cum laude at Oakland Community College in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

While there, she was the leading force in saving the wildflower preserve from being destroyed by construction plans. She subsequently was awarded a full scholarship to Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

She had a beautiful smile, a quick wit, and a tremendous heart, finding joy in spreading smiles to all who knew her. She had a vivid imagination and a creative spirit, having shown her paintings, published her poetry, composed pieces for the piano, won an award for her lifelike drawing, and she loved singing cute little songs she thought up. At the age of 93, she recently published her book, "Be Ye Kind One to Another." She loves ALL animals, especially her little kitty "Miss Peep."

Our dearest Marianne is greatly missed by us all.

She leaves behind her loved ones to celebrate her remarkable life: her dear little Miss Peep; her daughters Deborah Troxell, Linda (Craig) Dickinson, and Lisa (Jim) Sheldon; her grandsons Blaine (Lama) Garrison and Ryan Garrison; her great-grandchildren Thomas and his mother Tasha, Nuh, Ibrahim, Rassina Garrison; her brother Asa L. Stamps and family; her sister Mary Lindsay Dickinson and family; her beloved nieces Susan DeGarmo (Eddie) and Patricia Bryan (Don).
