Mary Amalfitano Obituary

Mary Adele (Dee) Amalfitano, beloved wife, mother, sister, cousin, and friend, passed away on December 29, 2024.

Mary Dee is the oldest daughter of Joseph and Frances Murgolo Amalfitano, and the first grandchild of Giorgio and Adeline (Dolly) Amalfitano. She is named after her grandmothers.

Mary grew up with her sister Donna in an Italian American neighborhood in Canarsie, Brooklyn. The house on Farragut Road was full of life, love, and the latest in fashion! As a teenager, Mary loved getting together with friends, whom she remained close to for 50 years. For the rest of her life Mary treasured the memories of large family get togethers at the family brownstone in Carroll Gardens, when it seemed there wasn't a care in the world, or at least nothing a plate of Grandma 'Tano's macaroni couldn't fix.

In 1994, Mary Dee moved to Tennessee with her parents and her pride and joy, son Joseph.

Shortly after, she met her husband and best friend, Barry Sidie, while working together at the Brooklyn Bridge Italian Restaurant. Together, they raised Joseph. Mary Dee served at the restaurant for many years and then managed the deli at Kroger's in Collierville. She was much loved by her customers at both places.

Mary's preferred vacation was always a cruise, and she and Barry have traveled to the Mexican Riviera, the Bahamas, and their favorite, Belize. Her favorite pastime was scratch off lottery tickets!

Mary is survived by her husband, Barry Sidie; son Joseph, daughter-in-law, Kelsey, and grandson, Matteo; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and John Petrullo, niece Kimberly and husband Vinny Saccente; great nephew and niece, Vincent John and Gianna Marie; nephew Johnny (she called him her blue- eyed monster); uncle and aunt, Vinnie and Judi Correale; many Amalfitano, Correale, and Murgolo cousins; and her dogs, Crystal and Luna.
