Patricia Potter Obituary

Patricia Ann Potter, 85, passed away on October 7, 2025, in Collierville, Tennessee. Born on
January 1, 1940, in Sioux City, Iowa, she led a remarkable life defined by creativity, intellect, and
a loving heart.

A graduate of The University of Alabama, Pat began her career as a reporter for the Atlanta
Journal-Constitution. Her journalism work included coverage of several U.S. presidents, the
space race, and the civil rights movement-an era that shaped both the nation and her
perspective as a writer.

Pat transitioned from journalism to fiction, becoming a bestselling and award-winning author of
more than sixty romance and contemporary novels. Her work resonated with readers across
generations and earned her numerous accolades. She was a three-time recipient of the Georgia
Romance Writers' Maggie Award and a seven-time finalist for the Romance Writers of America's
RITA Award. Pat also served as president of the Romance Writers of America and was a
member of both Georgia Romance Writers and River City Romance Writers of Memphis.

Those who knew Pat remember her not only for her professional accomplishments but also for
her vibrant spirit and generous heart. She had an insatiable curiosity about the world and found
joy in reading, traveling, Celtic music, and playing bridge. She was passionate about animal
rescue, and many lucky dogs found their forever home with her. She delighted in hosting friends
and family, creating warm gatherings filled with laughter and storytelling.

She is lovingly remembered by her brother Dr. William Potter; sister-in-law Betty Potter;
nephews Bill Potter and Stephen Potter; nieces Laura Schriner and Julie Whitehead; and eleven
great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William R. Potter and
Adelaide Potter.

Pat's legacy lives on through her books and the many lives she touched with her generous spirit
and boundless enthusiasm for life.

In honor of Pat's love for animals, the family requests that memorial donations be made to an animal shelter of your
choice in lieu of flowers.
