Robert Barnes Obituary

Robert "Bob" Barnes, Jr., of Cordova, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 13, 2025, after an extended illness. He was born in Kansas City, MO to Gertrude and Robert Barnes, Sr., who have both preceded him in death, along with his brother, Gary Barnes.

To know him is to love him! His infectious smile and laughter, his sense of humor and his loving nature made him so much fun to be around. His kindness knew no bounds, and his generosity touched the lives of many who knew him. Bob was an avid motorcycle rider and was the President of a motorcycle club, leaving many fond memories with lifelong friends. He was a dedicated workout enthusiast and could usually be found at the CLC workout room at Advent. He was always willing to assist anyone who wanted to improve their physical health. He also had a creative spirit – bringing many canvases to life with paint and other mediums and made a multitude of jewelry that he usually gave away to others.

The day after high school graduation, Bob entered the Navy and served his country as an MP. After being honorably discharged, he attended Memphis State University where he earned his Associate's Degree in Accounting.

After working for other companies in the fire disaster restoration business, he opened his successful company, Kleen-Rite Professional Services in 1983. He was a leader to his employees and a comfort to his clients who had suffered tragedy in their lives. After his company closed, he worked for Lowe's – then ended his working career as a Courtesy Team member and Security Guard at Advent Presbyterian Church, his home church family. He loved being around his church family and could always be found volunteering for most events, helping in many ways.

He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife, Amy, a daughter, Kerry Keeley (Larry) of Crump, TN; a son, Bobby Barnes (Cheryl) of Crump, TN; a step-daughter, Donna Burns, of Cordova; sisters, Kerry Sorrell of Tampa, FL, and Lynda Barnes of Chino Valley, AZ; nieces Shannon Sebring of Tampa, FL and Erin Macias (Mark) of Litchfield Park, AZ; nephews, Gary Barnes, Jr. of Chandler, AZ; and Sean Barnes (Elise) of Boise, ID; Grandchildren: Kimberly Pittman (Josh) of Atoka, TN; Matt Kirk of Bartlett, TN; Tyler Kirk of Crump, TN; Jared Burns of Cordova, TN; Lane Burns of Cordova, TN; Great-grandchildren: Bella Wall and Dylan Putman of Atoka, TN and Delilah Burns of Arlington, TN.

His Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 22, 2025 @ 11 a.m. at Advent Presbyterian Church, 1879 N. Germantown Parkway, Cordova, TN 38016 with a reception to follow in Lindsay Hall. Please come join us to celebrate the wonderful man he was!

Bob felt strongly about helping others with dementia and other illnesses, so he donated his body to science through Genesis Whole Body Donation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Advent Presbyterian Church for The Adventure capitol campaign or to the Jon Shober Scholarship Fund.

Although I know you are not suffering or confused or anxious anymore, there is such a void without your physical presence in my life. Rest high on that mountain, my love!
