Sam Sarno Obituary

Samuel A. Sarno Jr. (Sam), age 79 of Germantown, Tennessee passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday April 20, 2025, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House after a brief illness of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was born in Memphis, TN on April 3, 1946, to Louise and Samuel A. Sarno Sr. He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and Spring Hill College. Sam joined the Knights of Columbus in 1964 and was a long time active parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Sam was a very successful entrepreneur, building many businesses from the ground up. He spent his career investing in, developing and guiding many companies. He was very proud of these accomplishments and their success, and so very thankful for the people he met throughout his career. He also was very proud to serve in the National Guard for his country. He is preceded in death by his parents Louise and Samuel A. Sarno Sr. and a niece. He is survived by his wife Katie of 49 years, 2 daughters Melanie Gattas (Tony), Jessica McLaughlin (Michael), 4 grandchildren Samantha Gattas, Preston Gattas, Reed McLaughlin and Molly McLaughlin, 1 sister Mary (Cissy) Shelton, 2 nieces and 1 nephew. Sam will always be remembered for his incredible Catholic faith, attending 7:30a.m. Mass every Sunday and then heading to the golf course for his tee time. Germantown Country Club and Memphis National Golf Club were second homes to him, where he formed many long-lasting friendships. When Sam wasn't on the golf course he was at lunch with friends, at the indoor shooting range, reading a book, walking his dog, cooking, spending time with his wife and his most favorite activity, enjoying time with his grandchildren. Above all, Sam was a devoted, son, husband, father and grandfather. His family was his greatest pride and joy, especially his 4 grandchildren. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society, Baptist Reynolds Hospice House or the charity of your choice. Sam's message to his family and friends the day he was admitted to the hospital to begin the treatment for leukemia- "But I have an ace in the hole, I'm walking in with Christ and plan on walking out with Him. God bless to all"
