Sherman Pounders Obituary

Sherman Jefferson "Red Man" Pounders, age 82, resident of Hernando, Mississippi and husband of Barbara Howard Pounders, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, May 20,2 025 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Sherman was born July 22, 1942 in Somerville, Tennessee, the son of the late Orville Pounders and Gladys Pauline Cross Pounders. He graduated from Fayette County High School in 1962 and served in the Army National Guard for six years. He was employed as a truck driver with Yellow Freight for 36 years before his retirement in 2010. Sherman will be remembered for being a loving father who enjoyed golfing, fishing and meeting at the VFW with his friends.

Mr. Pounders is survived by his wife, Barbara Pounders of Hernando, MS; his son, Jeff Pounders (Alisa) of Jonesboro, AR; his sister, Wanda Pounders of Memphis, TN; his brother, Keith Pounders (Lisa) of Moscow, TN; two grandchildren, Taylor Anderson (Brandon) of Smyrna, TN and Tucker Higgins (Alyee) of Jonesboro, AR; and two great-grandsons, Carter and Waylon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, June Pounders.

Graveside Services for Mr. Pounders were held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Macon Cemetery with Bro. Dave Biter officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Thompson and Danny Davis.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3150 Lenox Park Blvd Suite 402, Memphis, TN 38115.
