Stephen David Baiel Sr.

Stephen David Baiel, Sr., 74, affectionately known as "Papa", passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025 surrounded by family. A proud Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, Stephen carried the values of service and dedication throughout his life. He served as a senior inspector with Shelby County Code Enforcement, known for his keen eye and commitment to his community. Stephen's passions extended beyond work – he loved golf and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Tennessee Volunteers and Memphis Tigers. His blood was said to "turn orange" each fall in unwavering support of Tennessee football. Stephen was a devoted husband for 53 years to his beloved wife, Nancy Baiel. He was a loving father to his sons, Stephen Baiel Jr. and Jason Baiel, and cherished "Poppy" to his one and only granddaughter, Madeline Grace Baiel, who brought him endless joy. He also leaves behind two brothers, Jean Soucy and Yves Soucy, along with a sister, Denise Amsden. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends at 5:00PM on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, with a service to celebrate Stephen's life at 5:30PM at Brent Taylor Funeral Directors located at 534 W. Poplar Avenue, Collierville, Tennessee 38018. There will be a private inurnment at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
