It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of
Stephen Franklin Kyle, 76, of Germantown, Tennessee, who went home to be with the Lord. Stephen, proudly known as "Poppa" passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of November 6, 2025. Stephen was born in Jackson, MS on November 9, 1948, to P. B. Kyle and Esther Sims Kyle. He lived a life full of love, service, and devotion to God, his family and country.
Stephen proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped much of his character and instilled in him a lifelong commitment to service. After his military service, he attended MS State University and graduated from Belhaven University, furthering his education and preparing for a future of dedication to his family and community. He was also a proud alumnus of the Class of '66 from Murrah High School in Jackson, MS.
Stephen enjoyed 43½ years of a distinguished career in the Automotive Aftermarket, working with BWD Automotive and retiring from Standard Motor Products, Long Island City, New York. His work was a testament to his commitment and professionalism, and he made lasting friends during his career.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Benita Crafton Kyle, with whom he shared a wonderful life. Together they have four children-William Jason Kyle (Melissa), Stephen Jeremy Kyle, Catherine Ashley Tubbs Alvarez (Jose), and Lauren Elizabeth Tubbs Condict (Joshua). Stephen's love extended to his grandchildren, Brody Condict, Abigail Edwards, Hayley Bates, and Elijah Condict who brought him much joy and pride.
He is survived by three siblings, Pat B. Kyle, DVM (Ginger) of Jackson, MS, Kathy Runnels (Allen) of Lorton, VA, and Martha Hadley (David) of Burleson, TX. He also had very close relationships with many cousins, nieces, and nephews to which he never forgot to send Happy Birthday wishes each year.
Stephen was active in Mission Church in
Memphis, TN, where he lived out his values of service and community. He took great joy in greeting people as they entered and exited the church at the crosswalk to make sure everyone felt welcome.
He committed to the Kids of
St. Jude’s Research Hospital by volunteering and serving at the FedEx
St. Jude’s Tournament for 33 years. For many years he served as Co-Chair of Shot Link and was one of many volunteers that gave their time year after year to support the Kids at the FedEx
St. Jude’s Tournament.
Stephen was a man of great kindness, wisdom, and humor, yet very serious. He was deeply devoted to his family and friends and will be remembered for his unwavering support, compassion, and legacy of love that he leaves behind. He touched many lives with his generosity and warm heart. He will always be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services for Stephen will be on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Mission Church, 6000 Briarcrest Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38120. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 11:00am with the service at 11:00am-12:00pm.
Stephen will be laid to rest at 2:00pm with full military honors at the West Tennessee National Veterans Cemetery in Germantown, Tennessee on November 19, 2025 a small service for family and friends.
