Terence Edward "Terry" Hollahan, aged 63, passed away on June 20, 2024, in Bartlett, TN. Born in West Berlin, Germany, Terry was a respected journalist and a cherished member of the Bartlett community.

He graduated from Christian Brothers High School and furthered his education at Memphis State University, majoring in Journalism. Throughout his illustrious career, Terry contributed significantly to several publications. He started at The Leaf Chronicle in Clarksville as a reporter and evening editor, then moved to The Jackson Sun as the evening editor. His career flourished as he took on roles at The Memphis Business Journal as reporter, managing editor, and editor, followed by a stint as the managing editor of The Daily News, and later as the Business editor at The Daily Memphian. He concluded his career at The Bartlett Express, where he also showcased his skills as a photographer.

Terry was a kind, loving, and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and son. Married for 35 years to his wife Cathy, he was a proud father to Taylor, Brandon, and April, and a doting grandfather to Hannah and Haley. His family circle included his sisters Claire and Kay Hollahan, and brothers Paul (Beth), and Larry Hollahan. He was also closely connected to his aunt, Sister Regina Grehan.

A man of faith, Terry was an active member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, Tennessee. His community spirit was evident through his volunteer work for the FedEx St. Jude Classic and the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Edward Hollahan and Shirley Ann Grehan Hollahan.

His life will be celebrated with a visitation on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 5-7 pm at Canale Funeral Directors in Memphis, TN.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, June 28, 2024, at 1:30 pm St. Ann Catholic Church in Bartlett, followed by burial at Elmwood Cemetery.

I worked with Terry at The Jackson Sun and found him to be a gentle and kind man. I asked about his family one night after the press rolled and he got choked up and couldn't speak for a moment. It took him aback that someone at work cared about his life at all. His kindness and gentleness was evident to all of us in The Jackson Sun's newsroom family in those early years of my career.

I had the privilege of getting to know Terry and playing golf with him on many occasions. He was a good golfer and a lot of fun to hang out with. He had a wonderful sense of humor, and could talk to you about anything. He taught me a couple words that have significant meaning to me - easy and peace. "Be easy", he would say when things might get a little heated. And about peace, I didn´t realize that one´s peace could be disrupted in so many ways. Terry helped me to understand these simple yet powerful words. My friend, I will miss you but know in my heart you have God´s peace now.

I´m sure in retrospect that I knew Terry in our parochial school days from sports but I certainly really spent time with him at CBHS and at after school gatherings (1:40, 2:40 club iykyk) . I have just recently reconnected and am saddened by the news. I was certainly proud of his accomplishments as a businessman father , husband and friend. God bless him and his family. God got a good one .

Prayers to his family, I´ve known Terry since we were in the fifth grade. I´m going to miss his clever dry sense of humor.

He was one heck of a basketball player.

I don´t think I´ve ever seen him without smile.

He will be missed.

I met Terry when we were both in Dr. Frank Swicker´s Chemistry class in our Junior year at CBHS.

I recall that Terry sat in front of me. We would we speak when we came into class. Unfortunately, I didn´t have Terry in any other classes, so I didn´t get to know him well. But I liked him.

I especially remember that Terry was a fan of guitarist Jeff Beck. He mentioned this as Jeff was playing a concert at the Mid-South Coliseum. I knew who Jeff was but I was such a Led Zeppelin fan (many of us were) that I preferred Jimmy Page. In the intervening years, I developed an appreciation for Jeff Beck´s ability.

I´m sorry to learn of Terry´s passing. I hope his loved ones will take comfort in knowing that, though his time on earth was brief, he made a lasting impact.

Terry was a student of mine in the 70's at St. Michael's. It was a joy when after many years I reconnected with him on facebook. I loved hearing about his family life and his wonderful accomplishments as a young man May he rest in peace and may God bless his family.

I remember meeting Terry, and Cathy saying we were going to be buddies. Thirty four years later, I feel a profound sense of loss with Terry`s passing. Terry, thank you for the companionship and brotherhood, I can easily say you were the best friend I`ve ever had. We found that we had some things in common. We were born just 6 weeks apart, we loved sports and had the same favorite NFL team. Also, we had both briefly sold encyclopedias and had the same boss, me in Colorado and Terry in Tennessee. Although we talked about the world in general, our interest in sports formed our original bond. We watched dozens, maybe hundreds of sporting events on television and went to live events also. We were huge Dan Marino fans and went to New Orleans to watch him play. Even though he didnt play that day we still had a good time experiencing the city. We lived in Clarksville when we met and that is where our friendship developed., Cathy and I worked together at the local O`Charleys and she introduced us. As time went on, we hung out all over middle and west Tennessee. We alternated visiting each other`s homes. We went to many Titans games along with some Grizzlies games and some concerts. We generally hung out on 2nd avenue in Nashville after Titans games, Terry showed me around Memphis when I visited. We kept in close touch throughout our friendship, texting regularly. I had the privilege of enjoying the hospitality of his Mother, Shirley, several times and met his siblings at her home. I`ve also seen his sons, Taylor and Brandon grow into young men. Terry knew my family as well, having dinner at my Mother and Stepfather`s home several times and knowing my brother and niece. I loved Terry like a brother and his passing comes as a shock and leaves a void in my life. My prayers are with Cathy and the boys and their families along with his brothers and sisters. May God`s blessings be with Terry`s soul and his family.
