Thomas Hendrix "Tom" German Jr.

1945 - 2024

Thomas Hendrix German, Jr., cherished husband, father, and grandfather, went home to his Lord and Savior on January 3, 2024 at the age of 78. He fought a courageous battle against Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease for about a decade. He was born on April 16, 1945 in Somerville, Tennessee to Thomas and Virginia German. Thomas Jr. (known as Tom) married Betty Mae Henley on May 21, 1965.

He graduated from Freed-Hardeman University in 1968 and earned a Master of Arts degree in Bible from Harding Graduate School of Religion in Memphis in 1974. He joyfully served as a minister of the Churches of Christ for over 40 years in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas. Families First Foundation recognized Tom for loyalty and dedication as secretary of the Board of Directors during 1997-1999. His greatest joys in life were teaching others about Christ, traveling across the country with his precious Betty, spreading the gospel on trips to England and the Ukraine, and singing and playing guitar with his three little girls at his feet. Tom loved to laugh and his sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. He was a dedicated father and husband and enjoyed visiting with his three daughters and his grandchildren. He was gentle and kind and was loved by everyone he met.

Tom is survived by his wife, Betty Henley German, his three daughters and their husbands, Jamey and Christie McClure, Jason and Michele Hewitt, and Patrick and Charity Barber; and grandchildren, Viviane, Ivy, and Scotty McClure, Shelby Hewitt, Jadyn, Eliana, and Judah Barber. All of these he loved and touched deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jimmie German. He leaves behind Walter German, Carlton (Bill) German, Lillie Ann Fletcher and Jerry German.

A graveside visitation and burial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Fayette County Memorial Park located at 10670 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
