I met Dr. Wang when I started fellowship during a Sickle Cell Annual Meeting. He remains the nicest, most pleasant physician I have ever met. He was so humble with all of his significant contributions to our current understanding sickle cell disease. Quietly but effectively led impactful clinical and natural history studies in SCD. We will miss you.

I met and worked with Dr. Wang when I was a nurse at LeBonheur. We crossed paths a few times at St. Jude too. Dr. Wang was a very kind and gentle man with great empathy for children in Sickle Cell Crises. His insight and contributions to the pursuit of decreasing pain and suffering in children will live on. His kindness, patience, and perseverance have left a lasting impression on me and many others. Dr. Wang, you are missed.

I have been a nurse at St. Jude since 1986 and have known Dr. Wang since then. He was the kindest and gentlest person--and was loved by his patients and their families as well as all the staff. Gayle (and all the family), please know that we have you in our thoughts--this man was special and will not be forgotten.

Dr Win and Dr Martha were pivotal in not only saving my life, but impacting the woman I have become. Not a day goes by that I am not immensely grateful for Dr. Win. He had a way of caring for his patients beyond the research, and a Doctor like that is rare! The world has lost a great man, but he will not be forgotten. Rest in peace now.
To the family I wish that you find happiness and peace knowing that there are so many of us who are thankful for his care! You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr Wang was an excepcional human being and physician.
I enjoyed speaking to him in meetings. His Baby HUG trial was key to the early start of hydroxyurea in the US.
I would like to send my condolences to his family.
He is truly missed.

Dr. Wang was a highly regarded and much-loved leader of the academic sickle cell community in this country and beyond. He led with an astute mind, a keen wit, and a characteristic gentleness that brought disparate personalities together. We shared the struggle to bring Hydroxyurea to children, and I will always cherish the memories of his dedication and leadership. He could make an academic meeting fun! My sympathy goes out to his wife, family, and friends.

Win was a wonderful brother. We loved being together in adjacent units on Maui. While it was hard to see him in the hospital for so long, it was inspirational to see how one of his nurses (whose niece and nephew had Sickle Cell Disease) reacted when learning that Win had led the hydroxyurea treatment study at St. Jude. They thanked him for saving lives and making a difference in this world. That's a pretty powerful tribute.
