VeVe O. Fitzwater

ABILENE - Fitzwater, VeVe O., 97, passed away Sunday, March 23rd, in Abilene. She was born January 19, 1917 in Beverly, Kansas, the daughter of Abraham Oscar and Flora (Taylor) Cassel. Growing up in Beverly, VeVe attended local schools, graduated from Beverly High School and attended Ft. Hays State University to earn her Normal Teaching Certificate. She taught in various rural schools in Lincoln County. On November 26, 1942 she was married to Rex Elmo Fitzwater. All of their married life was spent farming in the Solomon area. He preceded her in death September 24, 1983. In 1998 VeVe moved to make her home at Frontier Estates and then in 2008 to the Sterling House in Abilene. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Paul Fitzwater in 1957, a daughter, Donna Fitzwater in 2012; four sisters and 5 brothers. She is survived by 3 sons, Jim Fitzwater of Brookville, KS, Steve Fitzwater of Shawnee, KS and Bruce Fitzwater of Derby, KS, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Janice McGinness of Denver, CO. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 27th, at the Danner Funeral Home with Rev. Lindsey Brummer officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday until service time. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be given to the Elsie Brooks Cancer fund.
