Lenore Rutter Obituary

Lenore "Kit" Rutter died peacefully at home in Newport Beach on January 18, 2016 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born on June 11, 1930 in Massachusetts, to Professor Clifford P. Kittredge and Jane Coley Kittredge, and raised in Princeton, New Jersey, where she attended Westminster Choir College, and where she met J Edgar Thomson "Jet" Rutter. They married in 1952 and moved to California where Jet attended USC Law School while Kit worked to support them. Kit and Jet raised four children on Lido Isle, and were active in their community and lifetime members of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club. Their life together included skiing and hiking in Mammoth, boating in Catalina, and traveling the world. Kit loved to spend time in Palm Desert, and was a skilled bridge player who will be missed by her long-standing Monday bridge group. She was admired for her loyalty to her family and friends, her keen sense of humor, and that perfect shade of coral lipstick. Jet Rutter, a well-respected jurist, preceded his wife of 62 years on May 31, 2014. Kit Rutter is survived by her brother Ted Kittredge; her four children Tom Rutter, John Rutter, Lynne Rutter, and Lee Rutter Runnels; and her three grandchildren Elizabeth Rutter Houshar, Jet Rutter, and Griffin Runnels. Donations in her memory may be made to Doctors Without Borders at www.doctorswithoutborders.org.
