Michael Bruce Tether

We are devastated to announce the passing of Michael Bruce Tether, 41, who died suddenly at home on Thursday, July 28, 2022.

Mike was bright and gifted. A voracious learner, he could talk about almost anything. As a creative spirit and lifelong searcher, his journey took him down many roads that led him to explore a broad range of interests in his time on Earth. He studied business accounting, theater, emergency medical response services, culinary arts, and was also a licensed massage therapist.

However, he could not ignore his lifelong desire to create and perform music. He decided to refocus his gifts and talents toward the guitar, became a prolific songwriter, and sought to become a luthier who designed and made his own instruments.

But it was being a father to his son Shane where Mike found a deep sense of purpose. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with Shane. Mike planned on one day moving back to California to be closer to Shane, and live where he grew up and had great memories.

We take comfort that Mike spent the last week with his son, sharing in their favorite activities and trying new experiences together, one of which was indoor skydiving. They also bought Shane's first guitar together and were looking forward to Mike teaching him to play.

Michael is survived by his son Shane Michael Tether, 14, of Canyon Lake, California; his loving parents Tony and Carol Tether of Falls Church, Virginia; his biological mother Betty Macri of Louisville, Tennessee; his sister Jennifer Tether and brother-in-law Mick Rabaa of Reston, Virginia; and numerous relatives and friends.

It is impossible to capture all that was Mike, the memories and images we have, and all that he wanted to share with the world. We are deeply saddened by his passing. His blue eyes, impish smile, and good-natured fun-loving spirit will be tremendously missed.

He will be remembered and held in our hearts always. May he rest in peace.
