Judith Faye Davis Biddle

Judith Faye Davis Biddle, aged 89, of
Athens, TN passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 22nd. Judy or "JJ", as she was known, was born in
Athens, TN on November 10, 1936. She attended the new Ingleside Elementary School and McMinn County High School. After high school she graduated Cum laude from the University of Tennessee Knoxville with a B.S in Business Administration.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, William (Bill) Porter Biddle, III, parents Ralph Davis, Sr. and Virginia Holmes Davis and her beloved daughter Marian Davis Biddle Trew. She was also preceded in death by her brother Ralph Garrison Davis, Jr. and sister-in-law Sally Biddle Bartlett and her husband Richard Bartlett.
She is survived by her brother-in-law Thomas D. Biddle, son-in-law H. Chris Trew (Renee), grandchildren Sydney Lauren Trew (Ben), Caitlin Trew Johnson (Matt), William Cullen Trew (Katie), Hannah Grayson Weston (Rae) and Brent Grayson, great-grandchildren Cohen Ross Trew, William Paxton Trew, Ily Marian Johnson, Harris Christopher Weston and Griffin Maxine Weston. She is also survived by her niece, Kristy Bartlett Wiggins and nephew, Thomas Graves Bartlett and their families.
A lifelong resident of
Athens, TN, other than her college years, Judy moved to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee. She pledged Pi Beta Phi Sorority, was named a VOL Beauty twice, worked at the student run newspaper, the Daily Beacon, and part-time in the Law School Dean's Office. After college Judy and Bill were married at St. Paul's Episcopal Church and moved back to Athens. Judy was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School, Bible School, was Chairwoman of the Alter Guild and "unofficial grounds keeper." Throughout her life, she contributed to numerous community organizations. She was a founding member and board member of the McMinn County Living Heritage Museum, member of the first board of directors of the Athens Area Council for the Arts, Girl Scouts Leader, and spent years of service delivering Meals on Wheels in our community. Judy was an exceptionally talented painter, gardener, hostess and homemaker. Her paintings hang on the walls of her family's homes and bring a serene sense of joy and nostalgia. Judy loved spending the summers in her backyard gardening with Bill and hosting family and friends for all the special occasions.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 30th at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in
Athens, TN with Reverend Mother Claire Brown officiating. Smith Funeral & Cremation Services of Athens is handling arrangements. Memorials may be made in Judy's memory to St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Athens Arts Center.
