In 1974, he then took to the open road across country to California to explore the northern Sierra Nevada Mountain range of the Feather River at Berry Creek, later settling in the warm, sunny coastal area of San Diego. He respectfully dedicated 32 years in the civil service working for the Department of Defense as an Environmental Protection Specialist serving the Marines, Sailors, and their families aboard Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton. After retiring from civil service, he let the road again take him to the great volunteer state of Tennessee where he enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley-Davidson, acting as president of the VFW Riders Club, and supporting his fellow veterans as an officer of VFW Post 5146.
