William "WD" King, 88, of Benton, departed this life peacefully on April 22, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his beloved family. He was born on Aug. 29, 1933, in Lake City, Tennessee to the late Dewitt T. and Maddie Penson King. Throughout life, WD developed a passion for spending time with his family and friends. He was a Mason with Ocoee Lodge #212 F&AM and a member of Goodsprings Baptist Church. WD spent 49 faithful and dedicated years with the Local L0917 International Union of the Operation Engineers and retired from Vulcan Materials Company. He also enjoyed flying airplanes and watching stock car racing. In addition to his parents, Dewitt and Maddie King, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda King; two sons, Wheeler King and William "Billy" King; grandson, Gilbert Mitchell, Sr.; great-grandson, Caleb King; great-granddaughter, Briley Parsons; siblings, Gladys Keith, Della May Lindsey, Zelma Doan, Horace King, Norris King, Walter King, Italy King, and Mitchell King. Left to cherish the many memories include his beloved wife of 61 years, Patty Ann King; loving children, Valerie Lankford, Linda (Kenneth) Mitchell, Raymonda King, Rocky (Angie) King, David "Rusty" (Ramona) King, Winston (Tresa) King, Wendel (Tammy) King, Chris (Laken) King, Jimmy (Sue) King, and Dewitt (Cindy) King; cherished grandchildren, Alicia "Pebbles" King, Nikki King, Luke Skipper, Shelley King, Sadie King, Catlyn King, Cameron Shelton, Lila King, Jacob King, Haven King, Dakota Kyker, Zach Lankford, Emma Lankford, Michelle Rooks, Katie Cothern, Brianna Shaffner, Keona Morrow, Dallas King, Carmen Spitzmesser, Doniel "Donny" Mitchell, Crystal King, Skylar King, Tasha King, and Dorothy King; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lela Hood; numerous extended family members and a host of friends also survive. A celebration of life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Rev. Robby Hatcher officiating. Interment will follow at Goodsprings Baptist Church Cemetery with Luke Skipper, Ricky Vigil Jr., Cameron Shelton, Dakota Kyker, Anthony Caputo, and Ken Ritenour serving as pallbearers. Family and friends will gather from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
