Aileen Christie

Aileen Christie, beloved and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and comforter for many others, died peacefully May 4th after a short illness. Aileen, 89, was born in Elizabeth, N.J., was married to her husband, Jack on May 1, 1949 until his death on July 3, 1998. She and Jack raised their three children in Brielle, N.J. She worked as a Pediatrician's office manager and nurse aide for ten years before retiring to take care of her husband who suffered an accident and became paraplegic. She was an active member at Manasquan Presbyterian Church(NJ), serving as an Elder and leading the Senior High Youth Group. Aileen moved to Hayes, Va. in 1985 to be close to her daughter and son-in-law in order to care for her husband. Following his death, she continued living independently, volunteering at The Bargain Box, hospital, and church. She also supported the volunteer work of her son with Partners in Development in Zambia, Africa. She became an active member at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church in the women's circle, church nursery, Sunday School and the Golden Saints. She visited and cared for many who were ill - she was graced with a caregivers heart. Aileen loved gardening and spending time with her 6 grandchildren and 6 great grand children. Her faith commitment is further reflected in her favorite hymns; "How Great Thou Art" and "Have Thine Own Way Lord." She will be missed by all, but welcomed by the angels. She is survived by her children, Scott Christie (Susan), Jack Christie Jr.(Debbie) and Debbie Stanley(John); her grand children, Stephen, Doug, Chris, Katie, Laurie and Jack; her great grand children, Anabelle, Conner, Camden, Spencer, June and Rowan; her sister, Jeanne; her brother, Bill; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A viewing will take place at Amory Funeral Home, Grafton, VA from 6 to 8pm on Friday, May 11th. The funeral service will be at 1pm, Saturday, May 12th at Yorkminster Presbyterian Church in Grafton.
