Alice Marie Robinson Cheeseman

NEWPORT NEWS - Alice Marie Robinson Cheeseman, 91, peacefully transitioned this earthly life and was ushered into the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 2, 2014. She was born on November 8, 1922, the daughter of the late Rev. James and Mary Epps Robinson, in Lackey, Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by two of her sons, Thomas A. Cheeseman and Harold L. Cheeseman. In her young life, she was married to the late Levi Cheeseman. Alice was educated in Warwick County and in 1939, she graduated as Salutatorian from Morrison Colored High School. She was the last surviving member of that class. In 1985, she retired from Gloria Manufactory. Left to cherish her precious memories are her two daughters, Mary Cheeseman Graham (Timothy) and Dale Porter-Battle (Jesse); her three sons, Nelson L. Cheeseman, Sr. (Brenda), Vincent R. Cheeseman and Victor B. Cheeseman; her daughter-in-law, Linda Cheeseman; her nineteen grandchildren; her twenty-two great-grandchildren; other loving relatives and many caring friends. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014, in Colossian Baptist Church, 856 Old Fort Eustis Blvd, Newport News, VA, with the Rev. Peter A. Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 838 Garrow Road by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mrs. Cheeseman may be viewed in the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
