Almeria DAVIS Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Almeria Y. Turner Davis was a loving, devoted mother to all her children and grandchildren. She was one that would sacrifice her last to make sure her children had. She went through a lot in her life-the good and the bad but she overcame all those obstacles by keeping her faith in the Lord. On April 18, 2010, God saw fit that her work was done.
Almeria Yvonne Davis was born to the late Johnnie and Ethel Gwaltney Butler on May 1, 1937. She joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age. She moved to Newport News, Va., in 1965, where she continued her service for the Lord at united Bible Temple Holiness Church, where she later became a member.
All through her life, Almeria Yvonne Davis had a hobby, she loved and enjoyed reading the bible. She loved and helped each and everyone she could. She enjoyed working with disabled people. She received her education at L. P. Jackson High School, Dendron, Va. She proceeded to Business and Nursing School. She joined the Household of Ruth in 1975, 4601 and the Hospitality Club in 1976. She was a Sunday School Teacher in Norfolk, Va., and also joined the missionary circle and became an Evangelist in October of 1982 at St. Mathew Church of God and Christ, Norfolk, Va. She later became a Minister and a participant with the Insight Enterprise Independent Living Center. She was also a Switchboard Operator at the Hampton City Hall, Hampton, Va.
She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Almeria H. Gandy (Kurt) of Newport News, Va., Olympia T. Smith of Petersburg, Va., Natalie Turner of Richmond, Va.; four sons, Larry D. Turner (Carolina) of Richmond, Va., George Davis Jr. of Newport News, Va., Marcus J. Davis (Anissa) of Martinsville, Va., and Hudson Davis; one brother, John Pem Butler of Spring Grove, Va.; a special friend, Jackie Foster of Hampton, Va.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
