Barbara Hancock Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Barbara Schwartz Hancock died on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008, at the age of 69, under the wonderful, loving care of the staff of the Hospice House of Williamsburg.
Born in Columbia, SC in 1939, Bobbi is predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, Jack G. Hancock.
Bobbie leaves cherished memories to son, John and daughter-in-law, Maura Hancock of Crofton, MD; two grandsons Jonathan and Kyle Hancock; and her beloved dog, Sam.
The first child of Johnny and Louise Schwartz, she is also survived by her sister, Carolyn and several cousins, including Judy Thomas of Seaford, Del., and Pat Paschal of Columbia, S.C.
Jack and Bobbi moved from Vienna, Va., to Williamsburg, Va., in 1990 shortly after Jack's retirement from the FAA. They were members of St. Martin's Episcopal Church for many years, which provided them loving and nurturing fellowship along with the King of Glory Lutheran Church family.
Bobbi was Jack's voice during his stay at Eastern State Hospital. Bobbi, in turn, was a strong friend of Eastern State and its staff, which included advocacy all the way to the floor of the State House in Richmond, Va.
A memorial service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 4897 Longhill Road, Williamsburg, VA. The Reverends Bill Harmon and Warren Winterhoff will be officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Williamsburg Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powahatan Parkway, Williamsburg, VA 23188. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Bobbie was a vivacious, funny, and loving girl who left us too soon, but God was calling her home to dance with Jack. I know she is happy now and although we miss her, she is pain and trouble free after fighting a good fight. We love you Bobbie.

John, Maura, and your Marines,

Those who have passed on,
live on in the good deeds they have done,
and in the hearts of those who cherish
their memories.

Thirty-four years of birth, graduation,
wedding, wake, funeral (and Go Navy)
memories with Bobbi and Jack,
her warmth and love was always there
for the Durnan family.

John, Maura, and family,

My first meeting with Bobbi was when she and your Dad lived next to Gary's mom Ginny in Vienna. From the very first moment I met her, she was nothing but warm, friendly, and lots of fun. Over the years, the Trinkles were very fortunate to have her as a wonderful friend. Please know we miss her, and will hold her in our memories always.

Thinking of you in your loss,

Alison Trinkle

I first met Bobbi as a 5 year-old, and remember being just fascinated by how "ritzy" this little blonde-headed woman was. She was always so put together, and even as a child - I knew "Miss Hancock" knew how to have fun!

As an adult, I came to know and appreciate Bobbi for so much more than just her fascinating egg collection! I loved her dry sense of humor, her total devotion to family and friends, and her many creative talents.

I've laughed through some tears this week, especially as I began to imagine Bobbi decked out in a fine set of angel wings (hand painted, of course!) with the “fruit of the Spirit” in one hand and her dear sweet Jack in the other. What a picture those two must make - unencumbered and ready for their next adventure.

I grieve your loss, and pray for your healing.

John, it is never easy to say goodbye. Ronnie and I are deeply saddened by your loss of your loving, talented and giving mother, and we are truly sorry that we will not be able to be there for the services. I am glad, however, that I was able to come up and visit her this summer. We all had a lot of laughs remembering the good ole days in Columbia and our family escapades.

I pray that your memories will keep her near in your hearts because even though she is physically out of sight, she is in a land of eternal peace and in the loving arms of our Lord. May God, your family, friends and your memories of her, help you all through this difficult time.

Love,
Ronnie and Pat Paschal

Bobbi was a wonderful aunt. She was cute and perky and fun. Her talents were amazing, from cooking to sewing to painting to playing the piano.....she did it all so easily. My recipe box is full of her recipies and my heart is full of sadness now that she is gone. John and Maura, you are in my thoughts at this difficult time. Love, Karen

John & Maura, You have been in my thoughts and prayers for a while, now. Bobbi was an amazing and talented lady who touched many people. She will be missed. I pray that the Lord will show you and the boys peace in the difficult times ahead. Just remember all the good times and know she is back with Jack. Boy, does she have a lot to tell him. Love you, Judy
