Benjamin Ferrell Obituary

CLAYTON, NC - Benjamin Gregory Ferrell, 49, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 16, 2017. Born in Hampton, he lived in the Tidewater area all of his life until 6 months ago when he relocated to North Carolina for his job. A very hard worker, he was employed by Boddie Noell Enterprises for the last 20 years working his way up from Service Technician to Senior Service Technician to Regional Facilities Manager to Director of Facilities Management. He worked very hard to provide for his family. An avid baseball fan, he loved the Baltimore Orioles, and enjoyed playing golf. For seven years he coached his son's travel baseball team, the Virginia Titans. In his younger years he was a speed skater. Greg was the life of any party with his infectious laugh and larger than life personality. A wonderful son, brother, husband and father, he leaves behind a legacy. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 26 years, Laura H. Ferrell; three children, Zach, Chase and Jenna Ferrell; his father, James D. Ferrell and his wife, Carol; his mother, Sandra W. Ferrell; his sister, Lisa Graham and her husband, Mike; a niece, Heather; two nephews, Mark and Travis; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lynn and Jerry Hunter. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Michael Ferrell and his grandparents. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm Thursday, December 21, 2017 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home followed by a funeral service beginning at 7. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 22, 2017 at Parklawn Memorial Park.

Dear Ferrell Family,
I am so shocked to hear about Greg. No words can express my sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I knew him as a teenager- we used to skate together all the time. I fondly remember him. His laugh would always bring a smile to your face.

I worked with Greg for the past 15 years, I considered him a true friend. I loved making him laugh, it brought joy to my heart, to hear that laugh. Greg was a true family man, always bragging about his kids, you could hear the pride he had in sharing his stories about his family. I am truly, going to miss Greg. My thoughts and heart goes out to his family. Just know, he was proud of each of you, and loved all of you very much. As I said, God must have had a problem with the Pearly Gates, and called Greg up, to have them repaired the right way. Goodbye, my friend, god bless you, it's been a real honor, to call you my friend..

Laura - I worked with Greg for the majority of his career at BNE. From the beginning I recognized his desire, greatness, and the ability to get along with everyone. I am saddened of his passing at such a young age because he was destined to achieve even more than what he had already accomplished. Over the years we became close friends and shared many stories. We will greatly miss him. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you,Zach,Chase, and Jenna.
