Jeffrey Ferrell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ciriello & Carr Funeral Home - Fairlawn on Mar. 11, 2026.
Jeffrey Alan Ferrell, 61, passed away on March 7, 2026 after a courageous battle with COPD.

Jeff was born in Akron, Ohio on May 9, 1964. He was a graduate of Jackson High School. Upon graduation, Jeff joined the United States Navy for whom he served 10 heroic years. While in the Navy, he achieved the rank of Petty Officer E-7. As a Navy Air Traffic Control Specialist, Jeff's call sign "Ratman" was accredited with saving several distressed aircraft. He was a combat veteran of both Gulf Wars as well as many other world conflicts, before leaving the Navy to join the United States Coast Guard for which Jeff achieved "Bluenose" and "Golden Shellback" status.

His career in the Coast Guard spanned seven years. While performing his duties as Chief Air Controller, he was awarded the Medal for Heroism in a non-combat situation after his radar skills led to the seizure of a vessel carrying four hundred trafficked people. He was also responsible for numerous operations for which he saved many lives of both fisherman and sailors who were left stranded or injured.

Jeff was known for his calm demeanor, successfully navigating aircraft through heavy fog and low fuel under the most extreme situations. He received several other citations for his incredible grace under pressure.

Jeff will be remembered for his kindness and compassion, joy of music, and most of all the love he had for his daughter Stacie and beloved dog Murree.

Jeff is preceded in death by his mother Darlene M. Ferrell (nee McVey) in 1977, his father Warren L. Ferrell in 2022, and his daughter Stacie M. Ferrell in 2002.

He is survived by his ex-wife Sandee Ferrell (nee Nemeth) and brother David Ferrell.

Calling hours will be held to remember Jeff on March 19, 2026 from 5-8pm at Ciriello and Carr Funeral Home, 39 S. Miller Rd. Fairlawn, OH 44333 with a service at 8pm.

Interment on March 20, 2026 at Conotton Cemetery 10:00 am.
