Bruce Parker Obituary

GLEN ALLEN, VA - Bruce Nance Parker, 77, of Glen Allen, formerly of West Point, Va., passed away on January 9, 2017. A native of Tappahannock, Va., he was a proud graduate of Virginia Tech and later earned an MBA from William & Mary. A gentle man of character and goodwill, Bruce gave of himself on behalf of the West Point United Methodist Church for over four decades, later doing the same on behalf of Trinity United Methodist Church in Richmond. Bruce was a valued employee of the Chesapeake Corporation for 33 years in West Point. He was also active in the Jaycees and Kiwanis Club, and spent many rewarding years coaching his sons and others in youth basketball. Bruce was predeceased by his father and mother, Marvin W. and Margaret B. Parker, and his first wife, Barbara S. Parker. He is survived by his wife, Patsy B. Hallett; a brother, Marvin W. Parker (Pat); three sons, Timothy S. Parker (Michele) of Christiansburg, Va., Stephen S. Parker of Boise, Idaho, and Eric C. Parker (Megan) of Charlotte, N.C.; a stepson, Matthew T. Hallett (Kelly) of Washington DC, a stepdaughter, Sarah J. Smith (Will) of Richmond; and 11 grandchildren, Trevor, Meg, Mitch, Logan, Kayleigh, Alec, Moriah, Sutton, John, Caleb, and Tripp. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Ave., Richmond, Va. with reception immediately following. Interment will follow at a later date in Sunny Slope Cemetery of West Point, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VCU Massey Cancer Center, P.O. Box 980214, Richmond, Va. 23298. Tributes may be posted at www.vincentfh.com.
