Carl SPARROW Obituary
Carl was a native of Hampton and graduated from Hampton High School in 1965. He had been a resident of Dandy, Va., for 21 years. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was employed by Lockheed Martin. He enjoyed the water and cruising Dandy in his golf cart visiting friends with Debbie and his dog, Abigail. He and Debbie traveled to many exotic locations - his favorite trip being to Alaska.
He was preceded in death by his mother and Father, Lillian and Frank.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie; three sons, Paul of Newport News, Jason of Dillsburg, Pa., and Corey and wife, Kim of Yorktown; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 24, at Peninsula Funeral Home. Pastor Bobby Collins and Pastor Larry Soblotne will celebrate the life and remembrance of Carl at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 25, at the funeral home.

I knew Carl in the early years (Wythe Elementary, Jr High and Hampton High). He was great fun and never forgotten. Surely you will miss him. There are many of us out here that will pray for healing of your hearts.

I know you called him Carl, We were his 3rd cousins and Our Mom Susie was his second cousin we grew up with him and His Mom and Dad We called Lillian

and my oldest brother is Harold, also a junior, Marie, Jimmy and Billy.I used to go out on Uncle Franks boat with Junior and Aunt Lillian. Debbie and family,
I truly enjoyed the days when I worked with Carl at the ACMI facility on Langley AFB. I tell stories even today of his quick wit and professional attitude. I collected a few of his famous quotes during our time together, and have carried them around the world, taking time ever so often to read them and laugh. I still have them.

I was blessed to have lived the first 14 years of my life directly across the street from the Sparrow family on Sanlin Drive. Paul, Jason & Corey were the epitome of what childhood friendships should be. I probably spent more time in their house than my own growing up. I truly enjoyed working with Carl whenever I visited the depot in Chesapeake, over the last 13 years. Carl will be sorely missed. My prayers go out to his family, friends and coworkers.

carl was my mothers cousin, she is saddened by his loss but did not know an address to send condolences her name is mary (betty) shufflebarger, and she really thought he was very sweet, and wishes to send her love for the family in this time of need.

Debbie. Paul, Jason and Corey I want all of you to know that Carl was like a son to us. As he was the son that we never had. Carl has been so very good to me and your Mother since you and Carl got married. We have always loved Carl so dearly and we love you and the boys the same way. I knew Carl in high school and ran into him a few times since. The last time I saw him was many years ago. If I had to put my memory of Carl into one word, it would be "nice". He was always "nice". He was easy to talk to and quick to smile. My heart goes out to his family and my prayers will be with you.

Paul, Jason & Corey I am so sorry about the loss of your dad. I didn't know your dad well but heard a lot about him and all of you thru your grandparents Frank & Lillian. They were very dear friends (more like family) to me and my family. Not many days went by when they didn't come to our house to visit. My mom and her brother & sister grew up with Frank. I know it's very hard to lose a parent but I pray that God will comfort you. Always stay close to one another and remember how much you were loved by your dad.

Hi my mom & aunt was a friend of Carl's in high school years(1965), she had taken me to meet his parents as a toddler after high school, my family had great respect for the Sparrow's. Debbie and family. The children of these families grew-up with Carl: Heslep's, Franklin's , King's and Clarks. We went to the same schools (Wythe Elemementary, George Wythe Junior High and Hampton High). We lived on Wakefield and Craven Streets. Carl was a great young person who turned into a wonderful man. I'll remember Carl with great fondess. We had lots of fun on the many driver education conferences he took with us. He added so much to our group and will be missed greatly.
