Charles Smith Obituary

Charles W. Smith, 89, formerly of Williamsburg, VA, died on January 28, 2021, in Leesburg, VA, due to Covid-19 complications. He was born on July 12, 1931, in Aliquippa, PA, to the late Louis A. Smith and Marie Reilly Smith. He was married to Frances Fabbro Smith in 1958 until her death in 2000.

After completing his education and draft commitments, Charlie began a 34-year career with the US Government, with US and overseas destinations. In 1988 he retired to Williamsburg, VA, moving in 2018 to Leesburg, VA, to be near his children. He was involved with St. Bede's Catholic Church, the Williamsburg Choral Guild and the Ancient Order of the Hibernians. He also was interested in genealogy and loved to travel.

He leaves behind his children Rena Dietrich, Catherine Smith, MD, Julia Humphries, and Christopher Smith, along with grandchildren Ellen, Sarah and Eric Dietrich and Kyle, Kevin and Nathan Humphries. His wife Fran and infant son Louis Joseph Smith pre-deceased him, as well as his siblings, Mary Louise Liebegott, Louis Smith, Frances McCafferty, Perry Smith, Alice Joan Pettibon and John Smith.

Due to Covid-19 regulations, a memorial will be held when it is safe. He will be interred next to his wife at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Aliquippa, PA.
