Charles Tookey Obituary

POQUOSON - Charles Vincent Tookey, 58, died June 25, 2004 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He was born in Silverton, Colo., yet called Virginia home for the last 22 years. He proudly served his country as an officer in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years. He continued his service to the community as the Executive Director of the Rita Welsh Adult Skills Program where he loved the volunteers, co-workers, and board members. Charles cherished his wife and family, brought unlimited enthusiasm and energy to his work, and seasoned all aspects of life with grace and matchless humor. He is survived by his parents, Vincent and Caroline Tookey of Silverton, Colo.; his beloved wife of 36 years, Donna R. Tookey of Poquoson, Va.; children, Chuck Tookey and wife, Jessica, of Boise, Idaho, Kari Jewett and husband, Mike, of Jonesborough, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Kendall and Kaitlin Tookey and Benjamin, Bethany and Seth Jewett. A life celebration service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Langley Air Force Base Chapel by Chaplain Charles Sparkman. The burial will take place in Silverton, Colo., on Monday July 5. Friends may visit www.mem.com to share words of comfort to the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Rita Welsh Adult Skills Program P.O. Box 8795, Williamsburg, VA 23187-8795. Arrangements are under the care of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton.

Charles was always a hero figure to me. I grew to love him very much because his love for my sister was so evident. He was a wonderful addition to our family and will always have a place in my heart.
