Deborah Law Obituary

Deborah Kay Law, 61, died Tuesday, February 16, 2021. Born in Michigan, the family travelled as her father changed duty stations and, when she was three, she was the poster girl for mental retardation while her family was in Hawaii. Since 1963 she has been a Hampton resident and she lived at the Howland House, a part of Eggleston Services (formerly Sarah Bonwell Hudgins). Deborah participated in their Scouts program, was named Queen Sara one year, and competed nationally as a roller skater and in many bowling tournaments across the country. She was well known for bowling at Century Lanes every Saturday during bowling season and with her sister there on Sundays. She loved singing and dancing and was a very outgoing person, but she hated the snow. She loved Dairy Queen so much that she could spot one anywhere she went. As a young child she participated with her mother's cheerleading squad.

Preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Phillip Law; she is survived by her sisters, Sharon Mounger and husband, Bill and Lani Hurlburt and husband, David; her brother, Richard Law and wife, Kim; and a nephew, P.J. Carter.

The family will receive friends from 5:00- 6:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2021 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 PM on Saturday in the funeral home chapel.

Memorials may be made to Eggleston Services, 1161 Ingleside Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.

Sorry the Covid thing will keep so many of us, her friends, from being able to visit and attend the celebration of Deborah's life. The bowling and pins at the start of her page is perfect!! When I met Deborah her dad, Phil, was helping Ted Pritchard at the gym and she was the Scout Post Quartermaster. She recited from memory the Scout Law each week as we opened the meeting. She did such a great job!! We will miss her and "the Law family" who used to help us set up and clean up the gym all the time. Our condolences to the family. Our thoughts are with you in this time of grief.

Even though we have always been miles apart....she loved her extended Missouri family and we loved her. She and I shared names, (I'm older than you - she would always remind me)!! Rest in peace sweet, Deborah and hug those for us you greeted when you entered heaven's gate.

Deborah Kay, I have known you a very long time. Since we were 17 and skating at Plaza Roller Rink. It was a pleasure when I came to work at Eggleston and ended up “ hanging with you again”. You were always a feisty girl with a big heart who would tell it like it was. It will be hard to not see your smiling face but I know you are “ Rolling Skating” away up in heaven. Will miss you sweet girl. Love Frances
