Della Hogge Grinnell

Della Hogge Grinnell, 73, answered God’s call and was carried to her Heavenly home by the angels June 4, 2018. She was at VCU/MCV Medical Center, Richmond. Della was a native of Gloucester and graduate of Gloucester High School. She was a lifelong member of Union Baptist Church, where she dedicated her life to serving in many ministries. Della worked years ago in the banking profession, took time off to raise her daughters, then returned to work at Achilles Elementary School where she retired as a teacher’s aide. She sang for 40 plus years with a trio, “The Gospelettes� and was a member of the York River Circle of the Kings Daughters and Sons. Della was also an active member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed baking and was known for her wonderful cakes, whether it be a pound cake or a beautifully decorated wedding cake. She lived her life to the fullest, just as would be expected. God, faith and family were her most treasured possessions. It is said that those who touch our lives, inspire us and love us, do so for eternity. Our lives are much better and more colorful because she was a part of it. She is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew J. and Lucy D. Hogge. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Reggie Grinnell; two loving daughters, Angela Miller and husband, Gary and Christel Santiago and husband, Manuel; brother, Andrew J. Hogge, Jr. and wife, Barbara; grandchildren, Elijah, Aaron, Jonathan, Stella and Amelia; and nieces and nephews. A Service of Celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2018, at Union Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Hogge and Reverend Richard Whiteheart officiating. Interment will follow in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 7, 2018, from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
