Demetrios "Jim" Sorokos

NEWPORT NEWS - Demetrios 'Jim' Sorokos, 78, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 18, 2004, in Riverside Walter Reed Hospital. A native of Amfissia, Greece, he had been a Newport News resident for the past 31 years. Mr. Sorokos was a co-owner of the Warwick Motel Restaurant in Newport News from 1973-1977. He retired in 1994 as owner of the Oasis Restaurant in Hampton after 17 years. He was a member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and a member of AHEPA. Mr. Sorokos was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Sorokos. He is survived by his wife, Dina Sorokos; two sons, Pete J. Sorokos of Newport News and Nick J. Sorokos and his wife, Caroline, of Yorktown; three grandchildren, Annabelle Sorokos, J.E. Sorokos and Zoe Sorokos; two brothers, Nick Sorokos of Greece and Louis Sorokos of Canada; sisters, Effie Kalofonou of Greece and Violet Agriannis of Canada; and five Kappas cousins, George, John, Nick, Voula and Tasia, all of Canada. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. A funeral service will be held noon Friday, May 21, at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church by Father George Chioros and Father Peter Makris. Interment will follow in the Peninsula Memorial Park. The family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association. Riverside Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
