Douglas Richardson Obituary

TOANO - Mr. Douglas M. Richardson Sr., 58, went to be with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, March 4, 2002, after a brief illness. A native of Gloucester, MacArthur, as he was well known by his family and friends, made James City County his home. In his youth, he joined Chickahominy Baptist Church in Toano. He attended James City County Public Schools. He was employed by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and Eastern State Hospital for a number of years as a cook. He was preceded in death by his father, Mr. Douglas Nathaniel Richardson. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Ida Mae Logan Richardson; his mother, Dorothy Richardson of Toano; his three sons, John Richardson of Williamsburg, Douglas N. Richardson Jr. of Toano and Jimmy Richardson and his wife, Lynne, of Newport News; his three granddaughters, Jimmika Jackson, MoNika Jackson and Tymika Richardson; his grandson, Master Courtney Richardson, all of Newport News; his seven sisters, Carolyn Tatum and Ella Dale, both of Williamsburg, Jean Jones and Mary Sellers, both of Toano, Edith Wynn of Newport News, Joyce Easterling of Harlem, N.Y., and Dorothy Foster of Havelock, N.C.; his brother, Lloyd Richardson of Williamsburg; his goddaughters, Cindy Sylvester of Virginia Beach, Joyce Ruttley of Richmond, Deborah Brown of Williamsburg; and a host of other loving relatives and many caring friends. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Chickahominy Baptist Church with the Rev. Sylvester Diggs officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble by noon Saturday at 3061 Chickahominy Road. Mr. Richardson may be viewed in the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Professional service entrusted to the staff of Whiting's Funeral Home, Williamsburg.
