Edward Speight Obituary

HAMPTON - Edward Exum "Buddy a.k.a. Bro" Speight, 69, of Hampton, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2015 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Edward was born September 27, 1945 in Whitakers, NC to the late Devine and Queenie (Spragley) Speight. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1963. Edward served 3 years in the United States Army. On December 5, 1970, he married Nora Evalina Speight. Speight retired from Newport News Shipyard after 36 years as an X31 Electrician. He enjoyed cutting grass, reading the newspaper and the auto trader, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elzie Speight. Edward is survived by his wife Nora E. Speight; his son, Edward L. Speight (Tiffany D.); two grandchildren, Robinson L. Speight and Edward L. Speight, Jr.; his sister, Verna L. Speight; and his brother, James E. Speight, all of Hampton; and two nephews, Maurice Speight (Alicia) of Hampton, and Anthony Speight (Iesha) of Grand Prairie, TX. A celebration of life service will be held 12pm, Friday, February 27 at Zion Baptist Church, 633 20th Street, Newport News. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens, Hampton. Viewing will be held from 1-7pm Thursday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Friday. O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
