Eva Anspach Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Eva Burgess 'Granny' Anspach, born September 23, 1916, in Newport News, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, March 16, 2004, after a short battle with cancer. Eva was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family, stitching, reading, gardening and cooking. She recalled her fondest memories as spending her youth growing up on 25th Street in Newport News and cheering at sports events that her son, Fred, participated in at William and Mary and at Newport News High School. Eva was very proud to be a member of the graduating class of 1935 at Newport News High School. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln Burgess, who raised her. Her husband, Charles Richard 'Dick' Anspach; her son, Richard L. 'Larry' Anspach; and her great-great-grandson, Steven Mosley, Jr. also preceded her. Granny is survived by her loving caregivers, daughter Linda Hartley and husband, Richard and her son, Charles 'Fred' Anspach and wife, Marilyn, all of Newport News; eight grandchildren, Debbie Hartley Verville of Ohio, Brenda Anspach Moore and Ricky Hartley of Florida, Terry Anspach of Hampton, Lisa Hartley Zamorano of Newport News, Mark Hartley of Chesapeake, Stephanie Anspach Hunt of London, England and Laura Anspach Dwyer of Newport News; her daughter-in-law, Sue Miller Dearnley; sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18, in Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia Society of America, Virginia Chapter, 2101 Executive Drive, Box 21, Hampton, VA 23666.

Eva will always be remembered for the times that she shared with all of her family. I will never forget the good times I shared with her. She loved life, as well as all of her family. She was so much fun to be around. She will be sorely missed. She is in a much better place now, where she will not suffer any longer. I am so glad I was able to spend time with her over the years. God Bless Her!!

To the family of Eva Anspach - I saw this in the newspaper on the internet and just had to send a note to you to say I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I remember her from my childhood as being a very kind and nice person. She and my Dad graduated from NNHS the same year and both grew up in the same area. Thinking of you at this sad time. NNHS Class of 1962
