Frederick Emerson Obituary

YORKTOWN - Frederick W. Emerson Sr., 71, passed away on Monday, Dec. 2, 2002. A native of Gloucester, Va., he was a resident of York County since 1947. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Emerson was a hard worker and owned and operated F. W. Emerson Masonry for 43 years. He was a member of the Tidewater Flying Club where he built and flew a Star Duster II Bi Plane. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Lions Club. Mr. Emerson was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Anne Carol Hudgins Emerson; a sister, Lulie Smith; four brothers, Brandon, Jack, Lynwood, and Charles Emerson. He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Anne Davis of Yorktown; four sons, Frederick Wray Emerson Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Seaford, Carol Dixon Emerson and his wife, Joyce, of Smithfield, Larry Oliver Emerson and his wife, Kelly, of Seaford, Garry Tabb Emerson of Seaford; five brothers, T. Nelson Emerson and his wife, Ruby, of Newport News, Chester A. Emerson and his wife, Maxine, of Newport News, Herbert T. Emerson and his wife, Nora, of Grafton, Sherwood C. Emerson and his wife, Carroll Ed of Poquoson, Robert C. Emerson and his wife, Nancy, of Tabb; 12 grandchildren, Rick, Chase, Brooke, Anne, C.D., MaryAnn, Trina, Dale, Bonnie, Bryan, Crissie, and Nicole; seven great-grandchildren, Bethany, Ethan, Evan, Dylan, Gabby, Mason, and Christopher. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, in Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Thurman Hayes and the Rev. Robert C. Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, in Amory Funeral Home, Grafton. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 20 Interstate Corporate Center, Suite #233, Norfolk, VA 23502.
