This truly was a great man. Thank you for your many contributions. But on a personal note, He buried many individuals in my family and helped me with the arrangements for my mother when I often struggled to get myself together.. he was very calming. He will be greatly missed but his spirit lives on forever..-Hudson family

I am very sorry to hear of the loss of Rev Carter. He opened the door for my law enforcement career the same as other African American Deputy Sheriffs that served Gloucester County; Ivory Carey, George Larrimore, Bradley Holmes, Donald Whiting along with Joshua Holmes in Middlesex County who later became Sheriff of Middlesex County. If it were not for them, I would have never been the First African American Police Chief of the Town of Urbanna in 1990 and later the Third African American Police Officer hired in the City of Poquoson in 2002 and still currently serving. Thank you Rev Carter for opening the door.

I am so sorry to hear about Fred's passing. He was a very interesting and intelligent man, so much that the city council appoint Fred to the planning commission. He was a great board member and helped move Newport News forward in the 90's. I will never forget him. His death was unexpected, his family and friends are hurting, yet heaven is rejoicing. Peace to his loved ones.

Our condolences to the Carter family in your time of bereavement. We knew Reverend Carter for a long time. He baptized our two children. Truly a man of God.He believed in tithing to the utmost and set the example by always saying "Follow me as I follow Christ before he would put his tithe in" I will never forget that. A great leader! You will truly be missed. We pray that God give the family strength to carry on during this time of bereavement.

My Dear Cousin Fred,

How we will miss you!
You were funny and brilliant.
You always had an opinion about state laws governing the funeral industry and loved to talk with me about the enforcing of them! I will never forget your "temperature" argument and it being implemented!!
The family history you had will be so missed by our family. Thanks for taking me to Philly when I was a teenager and as I got older I knew why I could not go with you and as you had your girlfriend "Betty":) I also remember when I was young and you teased me by pretending to measure me for a casket-too funny now!! What sense of humor you had.

Peace be with my dear cousin and your/our family. You are one in a million.

Cousins Faye, Karl, Kelli and Lance Lemon
