Grace Marion Twomey

Grace Marion Twomey, age 99, died after a brief illness and a long life on September 21, 2018 at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, Va. She was surrounded by family. Grace was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Fred and Agnes (nee Linderoth) Mitchell. She was married to Colonel USAF (ret) Thomas A. Twomey until his death in 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Beal and her husband Lieutenant Colonel USAF (ret) John F. Beal of Yorktown; her son, Brigadier General USAF (ret) Thomas A. Twomey and his wife, Rosemary of Fairfax, Va.; her son, Kevin Twomey and his wife, Dannehl of Dallas, Tx and Santa Fe, NM; and her daughter, Jane Twomey and her partner, Linda King of Newport News, Va. She is also lovingly survived by six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was a wonderful, generous and loving person. As an example, a few years ago, as she left a TJ Maxx, she found an envelope full of cash. Rather than treat it as "found money" she assumed some hard-working person accidentally dropped a pay envelope. She contacted Jim Spencer of the Daily Press who wrote an op ed column, finding the working person who lost the envelope. The woman who dropped the envelope said Grace saved her family's Christmas. Always friendly with an easy smile and warmth, she will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 25 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 26 at 10:00 a.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park.
