Gregory Gardy Obituary

Gregory Norman Gardy of Poquoson, Virginia was called home on June 19, 2023 after a lengthy illness. He left this world as he lived it, with his family lovingly by his side.

Born on March 23, 1952 to Gatewood and Barbara Royals Gardy, Greg spent his younger days in Callao on Virginia's Northern Neck before moving to Poquoson in 1968. It was at this time he met Melissa Forrest, the love of his life. After a not-at-all lengthy and definitely totally normal dating period of nearly eight years, they were married June 21, 1975. It was also at this time that he attended his beloved Virginia Tech for three years, and then transferred to graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Governmental Administration with departmental distinction from Christopher Newport College. In 1985, Greg became a "Fauzah" when the second great love of his life, his "Dauzah" Kaitlyn, was born.

Greg had a great capacity for love and showed it every day. Greg loved music. He loved Clapton, Hendrix, and Zeppelin. Greg loved sports. He loved baseball, golf, and Virginia Tech football. As you might imagine, he especially loved when "Enter Sandman" blasted over the loudspeakers at Lane Stadium. He loved his home church, Trinity United Methodist Church, and served it in many capacities, including Finance Chair, Building Committee Co-Chair, and Capital Funds Campaign Co-Chair. Greg loved diligence, like the kind it took to balance a checkbook. He loved precision, like pointing out that a backhoe is not the same thing as a bulldozer. He loved learning new technology, especially when it meant he could read the "latest novels" on his Kindle. And he loved inside jokes, like the ones peppered throughout this obituary. Above all, though, Greg loved his family, who loved him in return, and were present in the final moments as he peacefully made his transition.

Greg is survived by his wife of 48 years, Melissa, his daughter and son-in-law Kaitlyn and Robert Weathers, his brother and sister-in-law David Gardy and Marcia Gardy, his sister-in-law Elaine Forrest Van Dervort, his nieces Catherine Van Dervort Holloway and husband Troy Holloway, Jennifer VanDervort Bostain and partner Robert Bennett, and Katie Gardy and partner Connor Delaney, his grand nieces and nephews Julia Bostain, Daniel Bostain, Robbie Holloway, Sarah Holloway, Evelynn Delaney, and Kehlani Delaney, and his "well-timed" grandson, Forrest Keller Weathers.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Poquoson on Friday, June 23 with visitation at 2 p.m. and the funeral and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary. To share condolences visit www.claytorrollins.com
