Helen Clark Obituary

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mrs. Helen Clark, known to many of her friends as 'Bunnie,' 89, of Charleston, S.C., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at Hospice Center of Charleston with her family by her side. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 27 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Newport News, Va., where she and her family were longtime members. Mrs. Clark was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Washington, D.C., and was the daughter of the late Philip N. and Helen Alden Davison. She was the widow of E. Bailey Tudder, married 48 years, and Chester H. Clark, her High School Sweetheart, married six years. As well as being a wonderful, loving mother and wife, she served in a civilian capacity in Germany during the historic 'Berlin Airlift,' was a talented musician and songwriter, community activist and later in life had a rich career as an actress and model. After moving to the Hampton Roads area, Bunnie and Bailey were very involved with the Peninsula Community Theater. Her community activities included; hand picked member of the Framework of the Future for Newport News, and the League of Women Voters. She was also a regular contributor to the Editorial Section of the Daily Press expressing her thoughts and concerns for the development of Newport News. She was predeceased by her son, Davison Lewis Tudder, in 2004. Surviving are: her brother, Philip N. Davison Jr. or Arlington, Va.; her children, John Mills Tudder II, wife, Pamela, of Charleston, S.C., and Dale Tudder Scott, husband, Lloyd, of Newport News, Va.; nephews, Jeffrey Lee Davison, wife, Darlene, of Harrisonburg, Va., and Philip N. Davison III, wife, Becky, of Washington State; niece, Billie L. Bready, husband, Al, of Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren; Joshua, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Amber and Emily; and four great-grandchildren, Jakob, Olivia, Bella and Lance. Family and friends may send charitable donations in her name to Hospice Center of Charleston, 676 Wando Park Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464, or St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Hilton Village, Newport News, VA.

I foundly remember 'Bunnie' from the days of League of Women Voters. She was such an inspiration! I'm glad our path has crossed in Newport News, Virginia.
