James William Diggs Jr.

POQUOSON - James William "Futs" Diggs Jr., 91, went on to his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior, the love of his life Virginia, and family and friends who have gone before, on Wednesday, July 12, 2017. He was a native of Gwynn's Island, and a Poquoson resident for 79 years. He was a Navy WWII veteran; a lifelong waterman; a member of Trinity United Methodist Church & the Men's Bible Class; and the Poquoson Masonic Lodge #49. Futs was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Sarah Virginia Diggs; parents, Susie & James Diggs Sr.; brothers, Ed Diggs and Ernest Diggs; sisters, Mary Ward and Florence Martin; and granddaughter, Keresa Gayle Diggs; He is survived by his children, Hilda Spain (Bob); Winfrey Diggs (Penny), Elmer Diggs (Debbe), and Debra Bunting (Grayson); sister, Gloria Lindsay (Paul); eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; fourteen great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elethia Diggs and Ramona Diggs and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 16, 2-3:00 PM, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Poquoson, immediately followed by a Celebration of Futsie's life at 3:00 at the church, led by Pastor Buddy Chapman, followed by military honors. A reception will then be held at the church. An interment service will be held Monday, July 17, 2:00 PM, at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton, with Masonic Rites.
