James Goerger Obituary
Some of his childhood years were spent living on a farm, although he enjoyed repairing engines and automobiles in his youth. He later studied at the University of Delaware and completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1965.
He married Carol in June 1968 and they moved to Smithfield, VA. They both attended Trinity U.M.C. for 50-plus years. He served in many capacities at Trinity, and led a bible study, most every Sunday. He worked at the Newport News Shipyard for several years and eventually went to work at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard - where he retired in the early 2000s.
Jim is survived by his son, Nick (Anita); daughter, Michelle; brother, Robert (Sue); brother, Richard (Debbie) and three grandchildren: Zachary, Josh, and Seth.
Services will be held at Trinity U.M.C., Smithfield, VA on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Christian Outreach Program (COP), 402 Grace Street, Smithfield, VA 23430 or Trinity U.M.C. Smithfield, VA.
