James Benjamin Hollingsworth Sr.

NEWPORT NEWS - James B. "Jim" Hollingsworth, Sr., 83, died Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Jim was born in Flintstone, GA and entered the U.S. Army in 1951. He was a Veteran of the Korean War and was later stationed in Germany. He was medically discharged after 11 years of honorable service. He was the owner and operator of Das Waldcafe for 40 years. He served on the Newport News Planning Commission as well as the Newport News Board of Zoning Appeals. He was very active in the community and belonged to the Warwick Moose Lodge #1711, Stoneybrook Elks Lodge No. 315, "The Do Nothing Club" and was a strong supporter of local politics. Jim is survived by his wife of 56 years, Waltraud G. Hollingsworth; his 4 children, J.B. "Jack" Hollingsworth, Jr. and his wife, Marcie of Newport News, Stephanie Bernardi and her husband, Jeffrey of Woodbridge, VA, F. Richard Hollingsworth of Madeira Beach, FL and Jessica Jones and her husband, Ed of Carrollton, VA; 8 grandchildren, Zachary and Jenny Bernardi, Meg and Jake Hollingsworth, Lauren, Lily and Luke Jones and Hanne Hollingsworth; his 3 sisters, Mary Mayforth, Annette North and Jodie Judge; brother-in-law, Freddy Walter and sister-in-law, Doris Collins and many nieces and nephews and his extended family at Das Waldcafe. The family would like to thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors who provided care for Jim. Funeral Services will be conducted on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00am by Pastor Hank Hollar at Weymouth Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will take place on Monday, Dec. 14, 2015 at 10:00am at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
