It was 1965. I was 15, and one of the first bands I ever played in was The Revelleers, from Denbigh in Newport News. Pat played organ. We won the Denbigh Days Battle of the Bands. Later we played together again in the Sheepherders. (I'm on baritone sax in the photo). Pat was a great friend and a great talent. I'm so glad that we were able to catch up by phone just a few years ago. Memories of long ago linger on. "How terribly strange to be 70. Old friends...."

I first met Pat in 1975 on the job. Pat was clearly brilliant; he always moved at a faster pace than others. Over the next 40-odd years our lives intertwined professionally and socially. We shared common interests. We have been out of touch for a while.
Our favorite memory of Pat is of camping at Big Meadows. Once, Pat and I quietly snuck up behind the tent making bear noises and startling Debbie and Linda. Debbie was pregnant with Emerald at the time. The girls were not amused. Later, while on a long hike along the Blue Ridge Trail, we encountered a rocky ledge. Pat and I decided to climb up and look for a cave. Just as we reached the top Debbie exclaimed, "Speaking of bears". Pat and I immediately jumped backward and fell to the trail. The girls made some reference to Karma.
We will always remember our good times. Fred and Linda Franklin

Debbie and Family,
So sad for Pat's passing and send my condolences to all of you. I, too, always remember he had a sense of humor and was so kind and thoughtful to me when I lost Ken. Please let me know when you plan his celebration of life.

I first met Pat in 1966. Pat was the best keyboard player I had met at that point. He was a friendly sort and played with some quality musicians in the late 60's. I lost touch when he moved to Richmond, but I thought about Pat frequently as a memorable person. He played in a band called "Sheepherders" with 3 musicians with whom I have worked over the years. Bless his family that loved him dearly.
