Jamey Ludwig Obituary
He was a lifelong Newport News resident. He is now a resident of Heaven and enjoying the fullness of peace and happiness for which he always sought.
Jamey was born Feb. 1, 1984. He graduated from Denbigh Christian High School in 2003, and was awarded the first-ever Principal's Award for Outstanding Improvement in Academics. He worked a variety of construction, tree removal and restoration jobs, before securing a career with the City of Newport News in their Stormwater Division.
He was universally known as a young man of integrity and dependability, traits he felt were nothing special but that are rare and invaluable. His work ethic was unparalleled and fully recognized and appreciated by every one of his employers. Jamey never believed he was anything special, but his family, friends and co-workers knew how unique and different he was than most young people his age.
He was a talented skateboarder, sponsored by local skate shops when he was a teenager. He was a gifted musician and loved playing the drums for various bands before embarking on finding a career. As an artist, he loved working with charcoal and other mediums and won first place in a local art show while in high school. He loved the outdoors and his dream was to settle down in a rural setting one day and enjoy God's creation. Jamey most recently attended First Church Ministries in Newport News, and has been active in church all of his life.
He shared a home with his brother, Jeremy in Newport News. They were inseparable best friends and the closest of brothers. He also lived with his close long-time friend, Justin Land, with whom he began to skateboard when they were young.
Jamey was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Lewis C. Wood of Hampton; and paternal grandfather, Jones Lewis Ludwig.
Jamey is dearly loved and survived by his mother, Cathy Ludwig Geary of Newport News; brother, Jeremy Ludwig of Newport News; sister, Jeanne Margaret Ludwig residing at home and her fiancE, Mike McFarland; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Wood of Hampton; paternal grandmother, Avinell Ludwig of Virginia Beach; aunt and uncle, Ron and Jeanne Bensten of Newport News; cousin, Everett Bensten and his wife and son, Jessica and Jackson of Hampton; cousin, Keith Bensten of Arlington, Va., Glen and Linda Reeves of Newport News, Brian Reeves of Newport News and his wife and son, Alicia and Landon, Linda Trollinger-Ballard of Silver Springs, Md., and her sons, Justin and Nathan, David and Lee-Ann Lawrence of Newport News, Justin Land and his parents, Raven and Debbie of Newport News; father, Roger Ludwig of Virginia Beach; stepfather, Mark Geary of Newport News; stepgrandmother, Grace Geary of Yorktown; stepsisters, Kellie Webb, Amber Geary and Kadie Gallagher; stepbrother, Andrew Geary; and many other friends, too numerous to name.
Jamey dearly loved and missed his family pets, Sam the golden retriever and Muffin, the equally-unique tabby cat who adored him. He is survived by Maxwell, a black lab, and Earl Grey.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. A chapel service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Peninsula Funeral Home, with a graveside service following immediately. Dear Mark, Cathy and Jeanne: I have been praying for you and the rest of the family upon hearing of Jamey's death. I was more of an acquaintance with Jamey but have memories of a gentle young man who always spoke to me in the halls of DBCS. As small as this may seem it was important to me as a first year teacher there. May God bring you the comfort that you need at every moment you need it.
