Jeanette Fletcher Obituary

Jeanette Laura Fletcher passed away October 18, 2021 at Hospice House of Williamsburg. Jeanette was born in Lamar, CO on May 18, 1932 to the late Aubrie and Olive Smith, who were long time Goodale Community farmers. Jeanette was united in marriage with her husband, Gene, on August 18, 1949 and graduated from the Lamar Union High School in May 1950.

Jeanette accompanied her husband during his 22 years of service in the U. S. Army. Following his retirement at Fort Eustis, VA, in October 1970, they returned to Lamar, CO in 1974 where Jeanette was employed at Fashion Fabrics for 17 years. In 1993 they returned to Newport News to make their home closer to family in Virginia and Maryland. Jeanette was dedicated to family well-being and loyal to friends. Many enjoyable hours were spent sewing for family, including quilts for children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Puzzles and watching the birds were pleasant past times.

Mrs. Fletcher is predeceased by her husband Gene (August 2020) and three brothers, Darald, Cecil, and her twin brother Jim. She is survived by her daughters, Diana Doren of Newport News, and Ellen Brewer (Bill) of Monrovia, MD. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Levy (Alex McCown) of Chicago, IL, Rachel Figura (Michael) of Asheville, NC, Sara Levy of Pasadena, CA and Ryan Doren of Asheville, NC; and three great grandchildren, Grant and Chloe Figura and Fitzgerald Levy-McCown.

Inurnment will take place at a later date. Donations may be made in her memory to the Peninsula SPCA, 523 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA 23601 or online at peninsulaspca.org.

So sorry to hear about your loss. You know that God and Jesus are in the best position to comfort us when we lose a loved one in death.

Mrs. Fletcher was a very kind woman and thoughtful neighbor of my parents for many years. I really enjoyed the visits we had together & she was delightful to be around. I pray for comfort and peace for the family & that they will see her again one day. I am sorry for their loss now though. She was a wonderful person.
