Jimmy JONES Obituary
Jimmy was born Oct. 24, 1960, in Newport News, Va., to Hattie Mae and the late Stephen W. Jones Sr. He was preceded in death by his son, Demareo Dontae' Hardy.
Jimmy was a 1979 graduate of Homer L. Ferguson High School. He was a former employee of the City of Newport News and Commercial Roofing. He was currently employed with Franklin Moving Company until his death.
Jimmy leaves to cherish his fond memory two daughters, Temeka Hill and Takiyah Hardy; his mother, Hattie M. Jones; six sisters, Laura Jones, Miriam Harrison, Neta Synigal, Brenda Jones, Janice Taylor (Rashard), and Patrice Hawkins (Frank); two brothers, Stephen W. Jones Jr. (Regina), and Plummer Jones; five grandchildren, Montera, Thomas, Shanydra, Trezure and Jayden; three aunts, and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Zion Baptist Church, 633 20th Street, Newport News, Va. Burial will immediately following at Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. I almost picked up the phone to call you earlier. I heard some music today and it made me think of when we were listening to some old school one day. I was trying to remember which group you said was Pop Coony's favorite and I was about to call and ask you.
It broke me down when I realized I couldn't.There's a knot in my stomach and an ache in my heart that just won't go away.
I miss you, brother.We all do. We are such a close-knit family and things will never be the same.I pray that you have found the peace that we all seek.

Please accept my deepest condolences. I am so sorry for your loss. I taught Jimmy at Newport News Intermediate and then years later, he was very kind to my son, who has fond memories of the man with a great smile. It saddens us to know the world is without Jimmy now. It just won't be the same.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.

That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,

because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,

Wow, don't even know how to begin. Jimmy and I were very good friends in school(Newport News Intermediate/Ferguson High School). He was kinda quiet, reserved, but he always, always had me laughing at something or someone, or had a good word to say. I never seen him not smiling. I have not seen him so many years but it hits me just the same to know a class mate who was a friend passes at such an early age. To the family of Jimmy, my condolences to you and yours.
